SEPTEMBER 2020 LESSONS IN LIVING

SEPTEMBER 2020 LESSONS IN LIVING

WEEK ONE

In the New Testament our Lord revealed His will for us. Our thinking, our perspectives, our belief, our teaching, and our practice ought to always be according to what He revealed. As the apostle Paul declared: “Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively applied to myself and Apollos for your sakes, so that in us you may learn not to exceed what is written, so that no one of you will become arrogant in behalf of one against the other.” (1 Corinthians 4:6).

WEEK TWO

Improvement is the result of doing. However, we may be prone to wait to do anything because we are always afraid that we will not get it exactly right. We must be aware that perfect conditions for action rarely happen and the person who waits for them we will likely do extraordinarily little. The wise man said: “He who watches the wind will not sow and he who looks at the clouds will not reap.” (Ecclesiastes 11:4). The more we do, the more we have a chance to improve.

WEEK THREE

The most powerful motive that will keep us moving consistently in the direction of obedience is a very real love for the Lord. Jesus said: “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments” (John 14:15). His point was that not only will those who love Him are expected to keep His commandments but that loving Him is the key to keeping His commandments. That is why to those that genuinely love Him, His commandments are “not burdensome” (1 John 5:3)

WEEK FOUR

Are there not times when we taste a joy that amazes us? Times when we learned that more joy is available to us than we even thought possible? Such times ought to suggest the vastness of what joy we can have in our relationship with God. The apostle Paul wrote: “It is written: Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him”  (1 Corinthians 2:9).
