MAY 2020 LESSONS IN LIVING

MAY 2020 LESSONS IN LIVING

WEEK ONE

Christ dwells by faith in the heart of a person who is “rooted and grounded in love” (Eph. 3:17). The nature of such love is unselfish (looking outward toward others), sacrificial (a mind set to accomplish the welfare of others) and deliberate (a determination of will). One does not just “fall” into this kind of love. Rather, one who has this kind of love will always look to the well-being of others. Note Jesus teaching in John 21:15-17.

WEEK TWO

The good things of God’s creation are meant for our enjoyment and within the limits of their rightful use these temporal things are deeply gratifying. The wise man said: “Here is what I have seen: It is good and fitting for one to eat and drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labor in which he toils under the sun all the days of his life which God gives him; for it is his heritage.” (Ecclesiastes 5:18).

WEEK THREE

It is hard to believe that in the time of great blessings so many seem not to have time in their lives to think about God. He should be in our thoughts at the beginning of the day, throughout the day and even in our night prayers. Such cogitation should never be a chore but rather a delight. “Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.” (Psalms 1:1-2).

WEEK FOUR

To seek worldly things without ever giving glory to God is to doom one’s self to eventual failure. The apostle John wrote: “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world–the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life–is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. (1 John 2:15-17).
