June 2021 Lesson In Living

June 2021 Lesson In Living

Many times, a person with a rebellious heart comes to a dire ending – which brings much grief to others. King David’s son Absalom had such a heart. He rebelled against his father and went to war to take away his kingdom, and died in the attempt. When David heard the tragic news of his sons’ death he was overcome with grief: “The king…went up to the room over the gateway and wept. As he went, he said: O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! If only I had died instead of you– O Absalom, my son, my son!” (2 Samuel 18:33). Let us remember the words of Moses: “Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you…” (Deuteronomy 5:16)
